Contract Driver – U.S. Postal Service Route (San Angelo, TX)

About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious independent contractor driver who owns their own vehicle to operate a USPS Highway Contract Route (HCR) in San Angelo, TX. This position is contingent upon contract award. The driver will be responsible for transporting U.S. mail under strict schedules and in compliance with USPS requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Safely operate your own well-maintained vehicle on a fixed USPS mail route.
- Adhere to all USPS security, confidentiality, and safety protocols.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of your vehicle.
- Handle assigned mail responsibly and maintain accurate logs.
- Communicate promptly about delays, vehicle issues, or route concerns.
Requirements:
- Valid U.S. driver’s license (CDL not required, but preferred).
- Clean driving record (DMV abstract will be required).
- Must pass a USPS background check and drug screening.
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent legal work status required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions.
- Strong reliability and punctuality.
Vehicle Requirements:
- Must own a reliable, well-maintained straight-body or cargo van suitable for transporting U.S. mail.
- Vehicle Type: Straight body / cargo vehicle
- Minimum Cargo Volume: 120 cubic feet
- Vehicle should have a minimum payload capacity of 1–2 tons (examples: Ford Transit, Chevy Express, Dodge Ram ProMaster, or similar box truck/cargo van).
- Vehicle must be secure, lockable, and weatherproof to protect mail.
- Must pass a USPS safety inspection prior to route assignment.
Compensation: Competitive pay aligned with USPS wage determinations. Fuel costs and maintenance are the responsibility of the contractor.
