Core Responsibilities
Typical duties include:
Loading and unloading orders: Pick up prepared catering items from the kitchen or restaurant. Securely load them into the vehicle, often using insulated bags, coolers, or racks to maintain proper food temperatures (hot foods hot, cold foods cold). Unload at the delivery site carefully to avoid spills or damage.
Verifying order accuracy: Check that all items match the order ticket, including quantities, special requests, and any accompanying supplies (e.g., plates, utensils, chafing dishes, or linens). Report discrepancies immediately.
Safe and timely transportation: Plan and follow efficient routes using GPS or navigation tools. Drive responsibly while adhering to traffic laws, speed limits, and company safety policies. Handle multiple stops on a route when needed.
Delivery and customer interaction: Deliver to the correct address or venue. Present orders professionally, often communicating with event coordinators or clients. In many cases, perform light setup such as arranging food on tables, setting up chafing dishes, or staging buffets. Some roles require taking photos of the setup for records.
